JOURNAL OF JEWISH EDUCATION’S 2018 ARTICLE OF THE YEAR AWARD

 In Announcements

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Journal of Jewish Education‘s Article of the Year (2018) Award is Sivan Zakai. Mazel Tov!

Sivan’s article, History that Matters: How Students Make Sense of Historical Texts, was first presented at a conference on Jewish Historical Understandings hosted by the  Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University. It was among the articles that appeared afterwards in our Special Issue on Teaching and Learning Jewish History (Volume 84, Issue 2) sponsored by the Mandel Center.

In her article, Sivan explores the extent to which Jewish high school students are able to compartmentalize cognitive and affective reading strategies when reading nine primary source documents connected to U.S., American Jewish, and Israeli history.

The award of $1000 will be presented at the upcoming NJRE conference in Chicago.
